Acrysof PanOptix® Implantable Lens in Palm Beach, FL

What is PanOptix?

The first Trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL), the Acrysof PanOptix®, was approved for use in the United States in 2019. It has been implanted since 2015 in Europe and has been generating excellent reviews and stellar patient satisfaction.

The PanOptix IOL is different from the current lenses available in the United States in that it offers three focal lengths – distance, computer, and reading vision.

Multifocal intraocular lenses that became popular over ten years ago limited patients to distance and reading vision, with poor mid-range capabilities. As a result, eyeglasses were often necessary for computer use. These older multifocal lenses also had a significant incidence of glare, halos, and starbursts, which limited patient satisfaction.

The new PanOptix Trifocal Lens improves these limitations by providing good computer vision and decreasing glare, halos, and starbursts. This lens also gives patients the ability to perform most tasks without glasses, although wearing glasses may enhance vision even more and is an option after cataract surgery. There is also a toric version of this lens that can decrease astigmatism for certain patients.

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is a type of multifocal IOL used to focus images clearly onto the back of your eye (retina) to allow clear vision after the cataract removal. In addition, the center of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL allows for better near (reading) vision and intermediate (computer work) vision versus what a monofocal lens would provide.

PanOptix IOL utilizes advanced ENLIGHTEN® Optical Technology, a proprietary design that optimizes intermediate vision without compromising exceptional near and distance vision. The ENLIGHTEN technology allows people to see better in both bright and dim conditions – both day and night – by providing a meaningful high total light utilization.
